Closing the knowledge gap.
Pipelines across the United States move millions of barrels of oil every day. The controllers who run them work remotely, and they need deep knowledge of pipeline systems, hydraulics, leak prevention and emergency response to keep operations safe.

- Overview
- Pipeline controllers perform automated and discrete operations from remote locations. When controllers are not prepared to act in an emergency, errors can lead to financial losses, environmental impacts and potential health threats.
- Opportunity
- The leadership team found knowledge gaps between their retiring workforce and new controllers. To keep the pipeline running safely and efficiently, the company committed to improving its training materials so they captured the knowledge of its most senior and experienced controllers. They asked PeopleCore for help.
- Solution
- PeopleCore specializes in visual, interactive and engaging training material. We started on site, reviewing the existing training material and working with controllers and the training department to learn what they liked and disliked about it. Our developers combined the original material, the controllers’ experience and our own industry experience into new training materials that met the needs of every stakeholder.
- Results
- The company was impressed with its new training material. Controllers liked the visual, engaging format and were proud of what they and PeopleCore had built together. The knowledge of the company’s most experienced controllers is now captured in material new controllers can learn from.
By recognizing the knowledge gap between its retiring workforce and new controllers, the company adapted to a changing workforce. It also recognized it could not do it all alone, and PeopleCore met its exact needs. Conclusion
The training behind the results
