Reading P&IDs and Process Drawings: Operator Training
How to read P&IDs, process flow diagrams and the symbols operators use every day.
Why it matters on the unit
Process drawings are the map of the unit. Operators use them to trace a line, find a valve, isolate equipment for maintenance and understand how a change in one place affects another.
An operator who cannot read a P&ID depends on someone else to explain the unit. That slows qualification and adds risk during line-ups, startups and emergencies.
What Module 1 covers
- Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
- Process flow diagrams
- The symbols operators use every day
How the module is built
- Graphic-driven
- Visual-first material, for better comprehension and recall than text-heavy manuals.
- Assessments
- Each module includes questions to confirm learners understand the content.
- Instructor guide
- A step-by-step road map for delivering the module, with activities and knowledge and skill checks.
- Built by experts
- Developed by PeopleCore trainers, former operators and engineers.
- Flexible delivery
- Self-study, classroom with your instructor, or facilitated by PeopleCore, virtually or on site.
Where it fits in the course
Module 1 is part of the foundations group of Basic Operator Training: how to read the plant and the physics behind it. Also in this group: Basic Physics.
