Technical Material Developer

PeopleCore (www.peoplecoreinc.com) is seeking well-qualified individuals for the position of Technical Material Developer.

 

Position: Technical Material Developer

Location: Remote, with travel to client sites (up to 25%)

Level: Mid-level (3 to 7 years of experience)

Reports to: Material Development Lead

OVERVIEW

This is a contract position. The Technical Material Developer works within a team to develop technical training materials for oil, gas chemical and any other industrial sectors.

You will spend part of your time on client sites collecting data, and part of your time developing technical training materials to PeopleCore’s proven standards. You will work closely with client Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on each project.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze technical and proprietary documents, drawings and data.
  • Research technical information.
  • Draft training materials to the standards of approved templates, in both paper-based and eLearning formats.
  • Facilitate technical reviews with client SMEs and revise materials based on their input.
  • Prepare finalized documents, assessments, answer keys, and drawing source files for secure delivery to the client.
  • Keep materials accurate and current as units and processes change.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Chemical or mechanical engineering degree or higher is required.
  • 3 to 7 years of experience in the process industry, technical writing, training development, or a related technical field.
  • A working understanding of process units and equipment such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, distillation columns, furnaces, reactors, and control systems.
  • Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to explain a complex process clearly to both a new and experienced Operator.
  • The ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment drawings, SDS data sheets and other process data.
  • Comfortable working on plant sites and wearing PPE, including field observation in operating units.
  • Strong communication and listening skills, and the ability to work well with Operators, engineers, and SMEs.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to technical accuracy.
  • Self-motivated. The ability to manage your own work and meet project deadlines.
  • Experience in Visio, SharePoint, Articulate 360, InDesign, and Autodesk 3DS max is preferred.
  • Direct experience as an Operator, Process Engineer, or Trainer in a refinery, chemical plant, midstream facility, or pipeline operation.
  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management and related programs.
  • Experience with instructional design, eLearning, or training development tools.
  • Experience developing operating or maintenance procedures.

TRAVEL

  • This role is primarily a remote position with the need to travel up to 25% both in the US and internationally.
